A Palette of Purpose: Paint Colors from Our Tall Oaks Sherborn Design

Welcome to the Colors of Tall Oaks Sherborn

At Oliver James Interiors, we believe paint color is never just a backdrop—it’s a storyteller in its own right. In our #TallOaksSherborn project, each room was thoughtfully crafted to reflect both the surrounding landscape and our client's rich personal style. Since sharing this home’s story, we’ve received countless questions about the colors we selected throughout the home. Today, we’re opening the paint deck to give you a closer look at the palette behind this soulful retreat.

From layered whites to mossy greens and unexpected blues, these are the shades that brought warmth, whimsy, and harmony to a truly special home. Let’s take a room-by-room journey through the colors that gave life to Tall Oaks Sherborn.

Nature-Inspired Neutrals & Soft Whites

The exterior of Tall Oaks Sherborn sets the tone for the entire home, quietly elegant and grounded in nature. We chose Benjamin Moore Moonlight White for the siding—a warm, nuanced white that shifts with the light, echoing the softness of early morning fog. This color creates a peaceful first impression, with just enough depth to feel substantial against the ever-changing New England skies.

For contrast and definition, the shutters were painted in Benjamin Moore Dorian Gray, a classic, medium-toned gray that adds a layer of quiet sophistication. The garage doors and barn shutters introduce a more playful, organic note with Farrow & Ball Green Blue. This shade reads as a soft green in some lights, a muted blue in others, and always feels fresh and rooted in the natural world.

Inside the home, the palette continues this serene, nature-inspired thread. The main walls and ceilings are painted in Benjamin Moore First Snowfall, a barely-there blue-white that opens up the space and enhances the abundant natural light. Trim throughout the main spaces features Benjamin Moore Little Falls, a soft, gentle gray-blue that adds subtle contrast and polish without overpowering the senses.

Layered Charm in Architectural Details

The architectural detailing within Tall Oaks Sherborn called for a more expressive touch. In select specialty rooms, we introduced Benjamin Moore Catalina Blue on the ceilings—a classic sky blue that brings a sense of whimsy and uplift, especially in areas like the premier guest bedroom ceiling and custom Beautiful Bed Company bed frame. It’s a gentle surprise that draws the eye upward and invites you to linger.

To anchor these ceiling treatments, we used Farrow & Ball Pointing for both walls and trim—a creamy, chalky white with just enough warmth to keep the palette soft and cohesive. This pairing feels timeless, yet full of personality.

Personality in Every Space

One of our favorite aspects of the Tall Oaks Sherborn project was the opportunity to layer in deeply personal, character-rich hues that reflected our client’s lifestyle and tastes.

In the upstairs hallway and en suite guest bedroom bathroom, Farrow & Ball Breakfast Room Green was used for cabinetry. This vibrant yet earthy green ties in beautifully with the surrounding woodland views, creating a sense of continuity between indoors and out. In the office, a more dramatic moment unfolds with Farrow & Ball Hague Blue on both walls and cabinetry. This moody, saturated blue fosters focus and calm, making it the perfect choice for a space dedicated to deep work and reflection.

The laundry room offered an opportunity for something playful yet refined. We used Benjamin Moore Bainbridge Blue on the trim and cabinetry—a deep, dusty blue that feels both cozy and elevated. It’s a color that invites relaxation while still feeling design-forward.

Thoughtful Touches & Accents

Throughout the home, smaller spaces and accent areas allowed us to experiment with color in thoughtful, unexpected ways.

The upstairs hallway vestibule affectionately called the dollhouse, we painted the back wall in Benjamin Moore Slate Blue, a calm, sophisticated choice that feels just as lovely in miniature as it does in a full-sized room. The trim and ceiling in this whimsical space were finished in Farrow & Ball Breakfast Room Green, tying back to the kitchen and subtly reinforcing the home’s overarching palette.

In the grandkid’s bedroom, we used Farrow & Ball Manor House Gray for the trim—a strong, architectural gray that grounds the room. For a touch of drama, the bookcase interiors and window frames were painted in Farrow & Ball Incarnadine, a rich, classic red that gives the space a quietly luxurious feel.

Finally, in her primary suite bathroom, we used Farrow & Ball Setting Plaster on the vanity cabinetry. This soft, blush-toned neutral brings warmth and femininity, offering a gentle contrast to the cooler tones found elsewhere in the home.

Why Paint Color Matters

To us, color isn’t just decorative—it defines how a space feels and functions. It influences mood, complements natural light, and supports the rhythm of daily life. In Tall Oaks Sherborn, each color was selected not only for its beauty but for how it enhances the way our clients live in their home.

The result is a palette that feels deeply personal yet universally inviting. It’s a testament to how color can quietly shape a home’s identity, one room at a time.

This post was all about the best Tall Oaks Sherborn design colors—a palette grounded in nature, emotion, and enduring beauty.
